Patricia A.
Lipani
May 9, 1938 — Oct 13, 2026
Patricia 'Pat' (Overlan) Lipani, originally from East Boston and a longtime resident of Malden, Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the age of 88
Pat shared a beautiful love story with her husband of 67 years, Carl Lipani. Their story began as childhood sweethearts, growing up across the street from one another and beginning their courtship when they were just in the sixth and eighth grades. What started as a young romance blossomed into a lifetime of love, devotion, and cherished memories. Together, they built a beautiful family and a life centered around the people they loved most. Their love story was truly one for the ages.
She was the beloved mother of Lisa Cagno and her husband, Michael, of Malden, and Carl Lipani and his wife, Lisa (Gennetti) Lipani, of Naples, Florida. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Matthew Cagno and his girlfriend, Stephanie Cafarella, Michelle (Cagno) Cafarella and her husband, Joseph, Sam Cagno, Marisa Cagno and her boyfriend Sean Mayne, and Carl Lipani and his wife, Abby (Granigan) Lipani. Her love extended to her treasured great-grandchildren, Mason, Jo-Jo, Adriana, and Logan Cafarella, and Harper Lipani.
Pat was the loving daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Overlan. She is survived by her beloved sister, JoAnne Vitiello and her husband, Dino, and her brother, Bill Overlan and his wife, Diane. She was predeceased by her cherished sisters, Kay Woodside and her husband, Bob, and Carolyn Rao and her husband, Sonny, as well as her brother, Peter Overlan. Pat also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
To know Pat was to be loved by her. She had a beautiful heart, a gentle spirit, and an extraordinary ability to see the good in everyone and everything. She always had a kind word to share, a warm smile to offer, and a way of making those around her feel genuinely special. Pat was generous by nature, always thinking of others and looking for little ways to show her appreciation. Whether it was offering chocolates, cookies, or a small token of thanks to someone who had helped her, she found genuine joy in giving. It was never about the size of the gesture, but the thought and love behind it. Her kindness came naturally, her gratitude was heartfelt, and her love was unconditional.
Above all else, Pat's greatest joy was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world. She had a remarkable gift for connecting with each of them in their own special way, creating individual bonds that each would carry in their hearts forever. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether it was hosting sleepovers, taking them to the movies or theater, or simply enjoying an afternoon of fun at the playground. It was never about what they were doing, but about being together. Pat found just as much happiness in life's simplest moments as she did in the special occasions. No matter their age, each grandchild and great-grandchild knew just how deeply they were loved and how special they were in her eyes.
Pat's love for children extended far beyond her own family. There was something magical about the way her face would light up whenever a child entered the room. Children brought her pure happiness, and she had a natural way of making them feel welcome, comfortable, and adored.
She was also a treasured aunt to her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Family was never simply a part of Pat's life; it was the very heart of who she was.
One of Pat's most cherished relationships was the beautiful bond she shared with her sisters. They were more than sisters; they were lifelong best friends who shared countless memories, laughter, and an unbreakable connection. Her beloved Saturday "playdates" with her sissies were often the highlight of her week. Those simple outings, filled with love, conversation, and laughter, brought her tremendous happiness and reflected how much she treasured being together with the people she loved.
Beyond her devotion to family and friends, Pat enjoyed a successful professional career. She held several positions at Malden Trust Bank, where she also served as an officer. She later worked for Kezer and Kezer Attorneys before retiring.
While Pat accomplished much throughout her life, her greatest legacy will always be the love she gave so freely. She never needed grand gestures to make a difference in someone's life. It was in the little things: a kind word, a thoughtful moment, a warm embrace, and the simple joy she found in being surrounded by those she loved.
Pat had a way of making everyone feel like they mattered, because to her, they truly did.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by the many lives she touched. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and unconditional love will live on through the family she treasured and the countless beautiful memories she leaves behind.
Private services will be held followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
