Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Louise Ann Shamma of Melrose, Massachusetts, formerly of Malden, Massachusetts, who passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, surrounded by her three loving children.
Louise was born on January 28, 1941, to Joseph and Mary Wedge. She lived a full life devoted to her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the most treasured part of her life. She found her greatest joy in the love, laughter, and memories they shared together.
Some of our favorite memories of her are the simple moments that made her who she was. She loved to cook and was known for making some of the best Italian food around, especially during the holidays. Her family will always smile remembering how, despite being petite, she could somehow make herself the biggest plate at the table. She adored playing with her cat, Bella, and was an avid reader. Music and dancing were a big part of her younger years, and she loved the simple pleasure of laying in the sun and enjoying a beautiful day. Above all, she treasured time spent surrounded by family, creating memories that we will carry with us forever.
She is survived by her beloved children, Theresa Medugno and her husband Rick Medugno, Joseph Shamma and his wife Kelly Shamma, Christine Healey and her husband John Healey; her loving sister Diane and her husband Joseph Ledonne (deceased), her cherished grandchildren Domenic, Sydney, Abygail, Joseph, Thomas, Stephen, Jake, Emily and Maggie; along with many loved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved Mother, Father and sister Mary Jane Checo.
A Funeral service celebrating Louise's life will be held at the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Wednesday, August 19th at 12:00pm. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm prior to the service. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Tufts Medical Center, The Cancer Center where Louise received her care. To make a gift please visit https://giving.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/give-now, select “other” and type Cancer Center.
