Obituary

Joseph Paul Salerno, Jr., a longtime resident of Malden, formerly of E. Boston, passed away at the VA Clinic in Bedford on October 12, 2011, after a lengthy illness. He was 78 years of age. Born in Cambridge, Mr. Salerno worked for many years as an Auditor for the Bank of New England. He also served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 33 years, Katherine (Kirby) Salerno. He was the beloved father of June Lafferty & her husband Mark of CT, Carol Salerno & her husband Russell Trammell of Lynn, Russell Surette of Malden, Michael Surette of Derry NH, Lisa Sullivan & her husband Paul of Malden & the late Paul Salerno. Brother-in-law to Florence & Joe DiNozzi, Joan & Edward Ferri, Donna & Earle Lawson. He was the cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren & 10 great-grandchildren, and is further survived by many nieces & nephews.

Joseph's Funeral will be held from the A.J.Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main St. Malden on Saturday, Oct. 15th at 8:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St. Malden at 9:00am. Relatives & friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are Friday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory may be made to the Hallmark Health Hospice 178 Savin St.- Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148.
