Dr. John Tramondozzi, Ph.D., of Malden passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, welcomed home by friend and partner Joseph Cesario. John was the son of the late Robert and Concetta (Cedrone) Tramondozzi of Malden. He is survived by his siter Antoinette and her husband Richard Port of Peabody, his sister Odilia "Tillie" Savage of Dennis, brother-in-law James DiBari of Malden, and sister-in-law Lee Smolinsky-Tramondozzi of Yarmouth Port. He is reunited with his late sister Mary (Tramondozzi) DiBari, brother Robert Tramondozzi, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Tramondozzi, and brother-in-law Larry Savage. John is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

John wrote the perfect obituary for himself and someday we’ll find it. What a blessing in disguise, for no matter how we try to craft our own legacy, people will remember us through their own hearts and experiences with us.

Growing up in the Edgeworth neighborhood as the youngest of five siblings to Italian immigrants is where John first saw the importance of family and community. John excelled academically at Malden Catholic High School, shining in the newspaper, science fairs, and student performances. As a University Scholar Scholarship recipient, John went on to Boston College, where he earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry. After graduation, John started a 44-year career at Curry College (Milton, MA) as Professor in the Science Division (a department he would Chair for 16 years).

Anyone who spent time in Malden would recognize the name John Tramondozzi, he was woven into the fabric of the city. As an 84-year resident, John embraced every opportunity to make an impact. He served in the Malden Historical Society in a President and Curator capacity. Since 1980, he has been making a profound impact on the Malden Public Library Board of Trustees where he previously served as Secretary and President. He was Chair of the Library’s Art Collection. He was on the Malden Historical Commission for 30 years (once again previously serving as President). John believed that knowledge should be shared with the whole community and “education will get you places”.

John was a partner in GianniSeppe Antiques for over 50 years. He and Joe traveled to antique shows (too many to count), purchased, sold, collected, and gave talks to many groups and clubs on the subject. John was passionate about preserving history through his extensive antique collection. Steadfast in the belief the value of the piece isn’t limited to a dollar amount or the cost of gold, silver, and gemstones, but is defined by the human hands that crafted it, the history it witnessed, and the generations it passed through.

The community knew him as Dr. John Tramondozzi, Professor Tram, Chairman, President, Curator, Trustee, but to us, he was Uncle John. He was keeper of family traditions, Pizzagaina on Easter, Baccala Stew for Christmas, and always the first to arrive at parties. He was museum adventures, library tours, and homework help when you need it most. He was quick witted, fast on the Jeopardy buzzer, and thrived in a good conversation. He had a way of keeping you grounded, invited or not, but that tough love came from a generous heart that was genuinely ready to help anyone in need. Uncle john’s spirit lives on in the countless way he shaped our family and community.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating John's life will be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden on Friday September 25th at 11:00am. Visitation will be held at A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Friday morning from 8:30am-10:30am prior to the Mass. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
