Obituary

Joaquina "Quina" Faias Mendes, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.

Quina was a longtime resident of Malden and formerly of Somerville and Sandwich. Her unwavering strength, honesty, and integrity will never be forgotten.

Quina was the wife of the late Victor M. Mendes. She was the beloved mother of M. Joao Mendes of Malden, Filomena Santos of Somerville, Gabriela Walsh of Sandwich, and Manuela Hir of Marstons Mills. Quina was the cherished grandmother of Natasha Evitts, Nuna Boll, Gabriela Walsh, Casey Heard, Allison Hir, and great grandmother of Hunter and Ethan Evitts, Jackson and Leah Heard, and Alexandra Boll. The family would like to thank Nivea Shaughnessy, Jane Elias, and Susi Pina for their continuous care.

The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Saturday December 15th at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7pm. Entombment will be in Holy Cross (Chapel Hill) Mausoleum, Malden.
