Obituary

Jeannette Bowie, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, in Lexington, MA. Born on March 16, 1937, to Leonard and Anne (Flynn) Blok. She graduated from Cheverus High School Malden in 1955. For 32 years, Jeannette worked as a telephone operator and later a computer technician, beginning with New England Telephone and continuing her career as the company underwent multiple transitions and name changes, finally retiring with Lucent Technologies. Through rain and sun alike, Jeannette faithfully walked from her home nearly every day to Oak Grove train station and took the orange line, commuting into Boston to the Tip O’Neil Federal building in North Station, a quiet testament to her dedication. Jeannette was a lifelong Malden resident having lived at her beloved homestead of Princeton Rd for 64 years.

Jeannette had a love of many things including yard sales, trips to casinos, summers in Brant Rock, and chopping icebergs in front of the house in winter. She donated clothing and supplies regularly to a local women’s shelter. She loved Avon products, ginger ale, devil dogs and parades. Jeannette found her love of ballroom dancing with The Socialites dance club of Salem, MA and became their treasurer for many years. Many friends were made on the dance floor. Jeannette also cherished her time at Saint Joseph’s Church in Malden and was especially devoted to the Charismatic Movement led by Father Mike Guarino, which brought her a strong sense of connection and spiritual fulfillment. Beginning in July 1985, Jeannette found joy at her beloved Sunset Park campground in Hampstead, NH, a place filled with treasured family gatherings and lasting memories.

It is without a doubt that Jeannette’s true source of joy was her family. She is survived by her loving children: Kim and Don Sterrett, Wayne and Colleen Bowie, Glenn and Laureen Bowie, Joy Bowie, Kevin and Rebecca Bowie. She also leaves behind a legacy of love in her nine grandsons, Andrew, Matthew, Adam, Justin, Benjamin, Scott, Eriq, Emmanuel, Samuel and of course in her one and only granddaughter Noelle. Jeannette was also blessed with four great-grandchildren Chase, Declan, Cassidy and Ayda Skye. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews (her beloved Walsh-Hegarty McLane-Leininger family), Cousin Elaine (Flynn) Thomas and longtime friend and former co-worker, Dorothy Green.

She was predeceased by her brothers Albert and Leonard Blok, her sister Shirley Walsh, Cousin Claire Mitchell, and dear friend and longtime neighbor Nona Stappen, all of whom she loved dearly. Jeannette was, above all else, a deeply loving and caring person. She had a remarkable way of welcoming others into her life, often opening her home to those in need, including the friends of her children and grandchildren, treating every one of them as her own. She will be missed every second of every day.

Visiting hours will be held at the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Saturday April 18th from 1:00pm-5:00pm. A service will be held at 4:30pm during the visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
