Obituary

David Courlang, born September 16, 1942, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. David lived a joyful and generous life filled with love, laughter, friendship, and devotion to those closest to him.

Born in Boston to Maurice and Ethel Courlang, David carried the spirit of the city with him throughout his life. He especially loved Rockport and the ocean, places that brought him peace and happiness.

David is survived by the love of his life, Mary C. Silvestro, whom he adored deeply and cared for “like a princess.” Their love story was one filled with partnership, loyalty, and affection. Together they owned and operated the beloved Boylston Place Deli in Boston, where they served not only wonderful food, but friendship, kindness, and warmth to countless customers over the years. Through the deli, David and Mary built lifelong friendships and touched many lives with their smiles and generosity.

David is also survived by his loving stepdaughter, Marni Jones, and her spouse, Christian Jones; his grandson, Isaiah Jones; his stepson, Joseph Silvestro; his daughter-in-law, Anne Marie Belrose; and his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Silvestro and Isabella Silvestro. Family meant everything to David, and he treasured the time spent together.

David was a happy man who truly loved life. He found joy in simple pleasures — shopping, cooking, playing pool, painting and spending time with the people he loved most. He was especially known for his cooking, including his famous Chinese red shrimp and risotto dishes that family and friends always looked forward to enjoying.

David proudly served his country as a veteran and remained grateful for the care and support he received through the veterans’ community throughout his life. He was also a dedicated Mason for many years and valued the fellowship and friendships that came with it.

Those who knew David will remember his warm heart, his sense of humor, his creativity, and his unwavering love for family. He had a way of making people feel welcome, cared for, and well-fed. His kindness, loyalty, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In honoring David’s life, his family remembers a man who loved deeply, gave generously, and lived fully every day.
