Obituary

Beverly Ann McFarlane—beloved mother, grandmother, sister, missionary, and trailblazer—entered eternal rest on May 31, 2026, at the age of 78.

Beverly’s story began on September 24, 1947, in the Mt. Oliphant district of Manchester, Jamaica, W.I., where she was born to the late James and Cynthia Sinclair. After attending hairdressing school in Kingston, Jamaica, her adventurous spirit led her to the United States. It was there that she met her husband, Kenneth. The couple eventually settled in Malden, MA, where they built a beautiful life and raised their family.

As a mother, Beverly’s devotion knew no bounds. She poured her heart into her children, ensuring they were always God fearing, well-behaved, well-dressed, well-fed, and deeply loved. She instilled in them the vital importance of education, discipline, and faith, standing as their fiercest advocate, biggest supporter, and constant guide in everything they pursued.

Beverly was blessed with an abundance of creativity and talent. An exceptional seamstress, she lovingly crafted outfits for her young children, including a beautiful, memorable prom dress for her daughter, Avril. Her hands were rarely still, and her kitchen was always full of life. To Beverly, cooking was a love language. She took immense joy in hosting and feeding people, a passion she shared with the broader community by selling her famous dishes at the Boston Caribbean Carnival. When she wasn't creating at home, Beverly loved to explore the world, creating unforgettable memories traveling alongside her children and grandchildren.

A woman of profound, unwavering faith, Beverly joined Good Shepherd Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Samuel B. Hogan, Sr. For more than 45 years, she attended the church, where she also served faithfully on the usher board and cherished every opportunity to share the love of God with those closest to her.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cynthia Sinclair; her beloved daughter, Avril McFarlane; her sister, Yvonne Sinclair; and her brothers, Alvin Carney and Gifford Wright.

Her enduring legacy of love, service, faith, and family devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; her daughter, Rosemarie Jones (Kim); her son, Kenneth McFarlane Jr.; her stepdaughter, Joan A. McFarlane (Mitzie) and her daughter in law, Petrina. She also leaves to cherish her memory her adored grandchildren, Rita, Kenya, Kiana, Carla, Kyle, Makeda, Keturah, and Marcus; her siblings, Norris Sinclair, Icilda M. Sinclair, and Deanna Hammond; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members, and dear friends.

Funeral service will be held at the Good Shepherd Church of God in Christ, 18 Whittier Street, Roxbury on Friday June 19th at 11:00am. A visiting hour will be held from 10:00am-11:00am in the church prior to the service. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Private interment will be held on Saturday June 20th.
